So if you are just using this cable to sync your phone with Itunes or to charge, it will work fine. if you want to use it to connect to your car stereo or older ghettoblaster with an Ipod connector it won't work. If you are looking to sync your "lightning" device with your computer using a 30-pin to USB cable, it will work. If you are looking to charge your "lightning" device with a 30-pin to USB cable and Apple's supplied usb/wall outlet, it will work. However, if you are looking to use it on an old sound dock or 30-pin/FM transmitter in your car to output sound from your device, this will NOT work. (At least it didn't work for my iHome dock) My device wouldn't charge with the adaptor when using my dock, however it would when using a 30-pin/USB cable and my computer or the wall outlet adapter. In my case, the compatibility with my old accessories was important so I will be returning it. This is also why I am choosing to say I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, since it doesn't support all of the capabilities that Apple's official adaptor does. Bottom line: If you are looking for audio output keep looking. But if you are looking just to convert your old 30-pin to USB cable into a lightning to USB cable then this should work for you.
